
WELCOME TO LISBON
Lisbon is a city on the Atlantic coast of Portugal, and the capital of the country. With a population of around 550,000 inhabitants within its administrative limits, and over 3 million in its metropolitan area, it is Portugal's largest city and its main hub for commerce, tourism, and international trade. Lisbon lies at the mouth of the Tagus River and is situated on the northern bank of the river's estuary, close to the Atlantic Ocean.

The city is home to the University of Lisbon, the NOVA University of Lisbon, the University of Lisbon School of Law, the National Museum of Ancient Art, the National Theatre of São Carlos, the Belém Cultural Centre, and the Lisbon Oceanarium, one of the largest aquariums in Europe. Among Lisbon's most notable historical landmarks are the Belém Tower, the Jerónimos Monastery, the São Jorge Castle, the Commerce Square, the Santa Justa Lift, and the Lisbon Cathedral, one of the oldest and most important religious buildings in the city.
